business examples.

Since the success of zappos and their personalized service it seems as if though they are used as a shining example for how you should run a business. Tony Hsieh has been busy describing how everyone in the company is required to work the phones for a bit just to see what it’s like on the front lines. Their customer service is the key to their success and the main component of their corporate culture.

By now, everyone should be aware of this, and everyone has been given the chance to adapt and emulate what they did. So why are Zappos still used in every text about using social media and customer service for your business?

Similarly, since Pepsi decided to spend their Super Bowl advertising budget on social media instead of expensive ad time there have been countless writeups about how great this is. Nobody is talking about buying more Pepsi though. Nor are they talking about how great Pepsi have been in social media other than their pretty normal Pepsi Refresh Project that they probably could have done anyway. No the only thing people are talking about is the fact that Pepsi *decided* to do social media instead of Super Bowl advertising. And that is definitely not something that scales well.

Success begets success. Just because someone leveraged a tool doesn’t mean the tool itself is what made them successful. In the case of Zappos, their great customer services is second in importance only to people talking about their great customer service. The same thing applies to Pepsi. By getting people talking about their budgetallocation they seem like they’re with the times. They don’t have to do much more than that, goodwill is spreading like wildfire. Social media “Experts” everywhere will use them as an example to make themselves seem more important for a long time.

NYC is full of colors. This photo was taken somewhere in Manhattan, I can’t remember where exactly but it was on that raised garden thing.

Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!

I keep starting blogs all the time. I never keep them up, nor do I keep the stuff I’ve written. I tend to just delete the old content as it seems pointless. This blog probably wont be much different, but hey, it’s an attempt.
